The Aldeburgh Festival seems to come around faster each year and I am always happy when Aldeburgh Music ask me back to document some of the events as they have again this year. The festival is brilliant and coming early in the summer seems to mark the advent of all things sunny and life-affirming.
The fringe programme at the Pumphouse and open-air events on Aldeburgh beach are my idea of performance at it’s most appealing: relaxed, inclusive, innovative, colourful, and that perfect combination of high drama with a laid back – and in this case – lazy sunday morning atmosphere.
The sun shone this morning for a piece by The Voice Project - simple, plaintive, hypnotic and plenty different enough to draw a crowd.
I loved the gentleman sunworshipper, lying half across the esplanade lightly conducting into a blue sky.
